-The longstanding rivalry between SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Cortland will continue Tuesday, Feb. 9, with the annual Battle of the Red Dragons basketball games at SUNY Oneonta’s Alumni Field House.
With all the built excitement, the upstate SUNY schools are moments away from seeing who will be the strongest dragon. This is the last game of the conference between the two and both teams want to win. The woman Cortland team is 1-0 again Oneonta women team this season. The Oneonta men basketball team is 0-1 against the Cortland men basketball team.
As a senior here in Oneonta, I have witness previous games that have taken place and man weren't they so exciting! I look forward to watching both teams put on for their SUNY school who they know are cheering ,them on tonight. Might I say Oneonta's Red Dragon has been working on his dance moves because his dabs and combo moves were on point.
"Same game but more pressure because they won the first game and it's only two conference games this season. This is the last one and we are taking the game serious". Said starting forward Latisha Price, who was able to score later on , 19 points , 3 steals , 3 assist and 4 blocks win over the Cortland.
"Good to see the turnout of the crowd! Love to see that the female are winning and go Ms.Price." Lynda Bassette, the director of the Equal Opportunity Program later on then said that she is excited to see one of her student overcoming all the diversity she is facing . For those who don't know Lastish Price, she is a college parent who has the energy to take care of her kid, go to school and lead a team of dedicated women.
The females of the Oneonta Red dragons was able to pull through on a close game against the cortland Dragons. According to Ms. price, her prediction was correct as they came out strong and finish even strong to tie the series between the two teams. The atmosphere in the arena was incredible as the two battle all the way down to a secretive few points the Oneonta Red dragons fought to get. The ending score was 63-55 as they sat back and wait for the men hopefully to do the same.
After an amazing half time show by the lovely Oneonta entertainment, the audience looked forward to seeing a great come back form the Oneonta Red dragons. The entire game went back and forth, shot for shot until under five minutes in the game when the Cortland dragon took control of the game. It began a defensive game in which the Cortland out played Oneonta. Statistics show that cortland beat the Oneonta all the around the boards for example in bench points, points off turnovers, second chance point and many more. This game turned out to be a disaster for Oneonta and a season sweep for the Cortland dragons this year. Overall the game excited the crowd down to the wire and it could have gone either way but the strong building Oneonta live on to play another day with an ending score of 64-56.
