On February 9, 2016 the SUNY Oneonta women’s basketball team played against SUNY Cortland in the Alumni Field House located on the SUNY Oneonta campus at 5:30pm. The SUNY Oneonta women’s team came out on top and defeated the SUNY Cortland team with a score of 63-55! During the event special announcements about the faculty mentorship program were made to show appreciation to those who mentor athletes on campus. Our school officials were proud to announce SUNY Oneonta as ranking 14th out of over 400 NCAA Division three schools in the NACDA Learfiled Directors Cup.

As many know SUNY Oneonta has a longstanding rivalry between SUNY Cortland, which made for a particularly suspenseful battle for the Red Dragons. One SUNY Oneonta student helping run the event remarks “of course I am anticipating a great win for Oneonta, this game is so special because it is a tradition for the school every year, and it is a chance to really showcase school spirit because both teams have similar school mascots.” Another enthusiastic SUNY Oneonta fan adds “ I try to come out and support our teams whenever I can, I look forward to a good game and a great season for Oneonta.”

A fan from SUNY Cortland came out to support their womens basketball team and they said "I came out today to show some support for our team and I like the energy of the games and rooting for our girls to win. One of my friends is on the team and I came out today to be here for her."

Star Player Lyteshia Price earned points throughout the game, keeping our Red Dragons in the lead. (c) 2016

SUNY Oneonta has many more upcoming games to look forward to. SUNY Oneonta will be competing against Brockport in the Dewar Arena located in the Alumni Field House, on February 12, 2016. Come out and support our Red Dragons!
