As many people spend there free time with friends relaxing, you can find Resident Advisor of Huntington Hall Denis Muganza jamming out and working hard in the recording studio. A Junior here at SUNY Oneonta and (you could've guessed it) Music Industry and Business Economics major Denis already has his own album released. This album, called "Afr-i-can" tells Denis's story as a 21st century Rwandan and African.

Denis's first came to the U.S. a mere three days before he came to Oneonta for college. His major fear in coming to the U.S. was feeling as though he was an "outsider and would ultimately be treated differently for it." However, Denis has become heavily involved on campus fitting right in as a leader. He not only is a Resident Advisor year round, but Denis is also a member of the Oneonta Hip Hop Collective (OHHC),  Poetry Slam Association and is an Orientation Leader and a tour guide.

When asked his most rewarding experience he has had at his time at SUNY Oneonta he eagerly replied with when he opened for Big Sean at the fall 2014 concert with an audience of 3,000 people.

Denis knows success will never come overnight so he often lives by this saying "What is to give light must endure burning." He states that a lot of people think that he is just talented or lucky sometimes. However, although those words are humbling, he knows the hard work he has put in to achieve success. He also knows there is a long way to go to achieve everything he wants to.
In the far future, Denis plans to get a job in the music industry and establish his own niche market that will enable him to create and distribute his own authentic music independently. When he establishes himself as an international recording artist and performer, Denis wants to invest in his home country, Rwanda. By giving money to music and art education, Denis hopes Africans will have a say in the global media and arts scenes. Overall, Denis works hard not only for our campus, but also plans to for the music industry. He never wants to forget to give back to his people and the place he came from. Denis Muganza: Resident Advisor and upcoming music industry icon.
