Residential Community Life Director: Michele Luettge |
Matteson Hall Staff in a Staff Meeting |
SUNY Oneonta is where the director of Residential Community Life, Michele Luettge started her career path into residential life.
In 1982, Luettge started her first full time job as a resident director at Hubert hall. She started small and then worked her way up,
using her skills as a resident director to get into the position as director of res life.
"I have been here ever since, in positions of a resident director, assistant director, associate director and now, residential director of Community life", Michele Luettge mentioned.
At first, she was not expecting to head into a career path in residential life.
"From the minute I was a resident advisor at SUNY Geneseo, I was actually in the field of education already and every time I started down that road I ended up getting pulled back into student development"

According to Michele, each level of the residential community life helps "build and fill in the gaps of what you don't know, so you can learn it along the way."
Resident Director of Matteson Hall, Sarah Brown, spoke some words about what it is like to work with Michele Luettge.
"She has definitely made it a home away from home for me. I need an environment where I can laugh, I need an environment where I can joke around but at the same time it needs to be a work environment and a very professional standing but you need to go and have a conversation her and you can have that with her ... she's the one to listen to you."

Small token of advice Michele Luettge leaves to students and/ or anyone who is in need of it is:
"Really be true to yourself and think about what is it 'I want to do' and don't let anyone stop you, go for it .. follow the passion."
