Dr. Nancy Kleniewski Embodies "Scholarship, Success, Strength"

The school President isn't someone that every student may meet during their stay at SUNY Oneonta, but Dr. Nancy Kleniewski works harder than most to ensure that the school is being run the best it can be.

Dr. Kleniewski has been SUNY Oneonta's President for nearly eight years since taking up the position in July of 2008. Since then, she has worked tirelessly to constantly improve the well-being of the students and staff, both academically and socially. In the fall of 2015 she started the "Scholarship, Success, Strength" plan with other faculty members. Her plan focuses on increasing that capability of student involvement in programs throughout the school.

"A really important piece of it is student engagement," Dr. Kleniewski said when discussing the plan. "How do we get students more involved inside of the classroom and also outside of the classroom?"

Like any worthwhile President, Dr. Kleniewski plans her projects out years in advance and also listens to everyone's opinions. She stated that next year there will be programs not only for students, but for professors and other faculty members as well.

"The faculty have decided that they want to have a center that's going to help them become better teachers, citizens of the campus, and researchers," Dr. Kleniewski shared. She wants to "strengthen teaching and the relationship that faculty and students have outside of the classroom."

Outside of being President, Dr. Kleniewski also teaches an Introduction to Sociology class. It is certainly her favorite topic; she holds a Ph.D. and Master's degree in Sociology as well as a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Behavioral Sciences. Kleniewski said that she fell in love with the topic of sociology from a young age and teaching the class was "The most exciting thing" she is doing this semester.

Everything Dr. Nancy Kleniewski does, she does for the betterment of the college. She has earned the admiration and respect that she holds from SUNY Oneonta's faculty and students. Dr. Kleniewski will continue to give her all for the sake of the school and will hopefully stay with SUNY Oneonta for many years to come.
