Not Just Any TV Show: The Movie Show

By Jenn Motschmann (Oneonta, NY)---

If you're a student at SUNY Oneonta, you have probably had a class in the IRC Lecture Hall building. But what many students outside of the Communication department don't know, is that behind the lecture halls, lies a Television Studio. The IRC studio is where Wire TV records. Wire TV is a student run club on campus where students can get hands on experience with real studio equipment. The club currently runs six shows, one including the Oneonta Movie Show. The Oneonta Movie show records on Mondays at 5:30. The show covers most movie news including trailers, trivia, short film showcases, and even movie debates.

The current producer of the show is senior Zach Millian. He has been a member of the club ever since he transferred here. I got the chance to sit down and interview him on why he choose to produce this show over any other in the club. He stated "...Because I want to film movies, I want to make movies, I want to write movies, and produce movies. So, talking about movies is pretty much right up my alley." When asked about the importance of the Wire in his future, he stated that "All the stuff in here will hopefully help me gather the experience to use it in the real world!" Many students from SUNY Oneonta who were involved on the Wire have landed jobs in the related field such as news stations, and it is all because of the experience learned in the studio.

I also got the chance to interview current senior Jessica Mintz, who has been in the club since her Freshman year. She is a member of the Movie Show crew and holds an e-board position for the club. For the Movie show she is the technical director, and for e-board she is the Program Director. As Program Director she is in charge of loading the shows into playlists so it can be played on the television channel. When asked why she originally joined the Wire, she responded with, "I definitely wanted to do a career with television, and I thought this was the perfect outlet."

Wire TV is a great opportunity for students interested in television or movie production to start getting experience. Members always talk about its benefits, how it gives some real experience for the real world, and how much they enjoy it. I encourage anyone interested in this field to join the club.
