New Opportunities From The Hunt College Union on SUNY Oneonta Campus

As SUNY Oneonta continues to make changes in curriculum and education, the Hunt College Union is right behind it. This past May, 6 students were hired by the Hunt College Union as interns for events and programs in the Hunt Union. These programs ranged from small events such as the weekly Poetry Slam Association's Big Ol' Poetry Slam to bigger events such as OH Fest and the Student Common Read.

These students who can be found in Office 220 on the second floor of the Hunt College Union, are now part of the Hunt Union staff, were put through two interviews and a rigorous on-site interview where they helped build the set for this past April's 11th OH Fest featuring Kid Ink. Not only are these students tasked at the technical aspects of the events, but they also stay in continuous contact with the people in charge of the events, and work to make sure the programs are content for both the customer and the Hunt Union itself.

With having an internship on campus, these students have the ability to gain real-life experience through interaction and communication with experts in the industry, along with having the resources to ask questions and gain knowledge through their classes and extracurriculars outside of the internship. This provides a well developed learning environment for these college students to really have a good head start out there. The continued improvement and development of this internship will hopefully bring about many other opportunities through education and applied learning for all students at SUNY Oneonta.
